It’s sometimes easy to forget how great it is to be a parent, especially when your beautiful child has screamed and cried for the last 6 hours and you’ve not slept properly in weeks.
So I thought I’d get these down to remind me of what makes being a parent the best thing I’ve done in my life.
1. Morning cuddles
Is there a better way to start your day then a cuddle with your child? I find it sets me up for the day better than any tea or coffee ever could. In my humble experience they are never more adorable then when they are half asleep and looking for a cuddle!
2. Playing hide and seek
Even though your child may be terrible at hiding (and mine is as she will be under her duvet in her bedroom every time!) the smile on her face when she finds me or the uncontrollable giggling that eminates from under the duvet as I “try and find her” makes me smile every time.
3. Arts and Crafts
Whether it’s painting, drawing or playing with stickers the little stories that come with each masterpiece all ways bring a smile to my face, the painting usual descended into art that takes three days to dry and I’ll admit not all of our little creations make it to the fridge door!
4. Bath Times
I always try and be home to give my daughter a bath in the evening and they usually ends up in a splash fight or a swimming lesson which requires extensive drying of the bathroom afterwards. We always have a good giggle and a chat about our day and no matter how long of a day I’ve had I always leave with a smile on my face and with a toddler wrapped up like a baby.
5. Coming home
My favourite part of the day – I work long hours and do a lot of driving each day, this inevitably leads to me being stuck on one motor way or another on a regular occurrence. Which when you want to get home to see your family is fairly soul destroying!
However the moment I get home I know I will be greeted as follows…. The dogs will come running at me from the house quickly followed by my daughter shouting “daddy’s home” with a smile from ear to ear and she will then jump at me and hope I catch her! As I spin her round with a big kiss and a cuddle I know my wife will be waiting at the door and in the face of this onslaught of affection the entire day melts away and I’m home.
These are a few of the little things that for me make being a dad so amazing and as I write them down they bring a smile to my face, so I’d encourage you to do the same. So when the little darlings have screamed and cried all day look back at them, take a big deep breathe and keep going because your doing a great job!
